How to Use Essential Oils For ANXIETY

Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time in their life. Anxiety can be caused by so many reasons like going on a first date, an interview for a new job, an important exam, moving to a new place. Everyone can manifest anxiety in many different ways like fear, worry, nauseous, panic, and/or uneasiness. For many, these feelings go away once the event has passed. But for others, these feelings do not go away, they persist and get very overwhelming. This can be classified as an anxiety disorder, which is more severe than just feeling anxious from time to time. 

On a physiological level, a person who experiences anxiety may also experience muscle tension, nausea, insomnia, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and excessive sweating. There are many resources out there to help anxiety, like drugs can help to reduce symptoms, counselling can address emotional problems, diet changes can help the overall body function, and relaxation techniques can help self-soothe. 

But, is there anything that essential oils can do to help?

Some people do need the help of doctors and counselors to help them deal with their anxiety, but it does not matter if anxiety ranges from normal fear and worry to  a diagnosed anxiety disorder, essential oils can help. When it comes to emotions, aromatherapy can be very beneficial. When essential oils are inhaled, smell receptors in the nose send a message to the limbic system in charge of behaviour and emotions, and this can be used to reduce negative feelings.

How to use these essential oils to help anxiety?

  • Take a warm bath and add a few drops each of Clary Sage, Rose, and Roman Chamomile. Relax in the bath for 20 minutes. 
  • In a diffuser add 5 drops of Bergamot, 3 drops of Frankincense, 2 drops of Orange, and 2 drops of Lavender. This will allow the scent to disperse through the air in a room.
